Alpha Sigma Tau women strive to achieve their highest academic potential and are encouraged to focus on their academic achievement. The history of Alpha Sigma Tau bounds sisters to the founder's desire of achieving a "high standard of true scholarship". Strong scholarship and success in academics correlate with chapter achievement and development. The sisters can often be found studying together in Kresge Library, as well as other places on campus.
Invitation to membership in Alpha Sigma Tau is based in part on high academic performance; therefore the National Organization has established academic bench marks for potential new members to attain prior to being offered membership in Alpha Sigma Tau. All new members, as well as initiated members, must maintain a 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale. The Delta Tau chapter maintains this national standard, as does Oakland University.
The Alpha Sigma Tau National Foundation provides collegiate and alumnae members of the sorority with the opportunity to apply for over 30 academic scholarships to support their educational endeavors. Each year more scholarships are funded by the sorority, chapter alumnae, and individual members to assist our members. Please visit http://alphasigmatau.org/foundation/scholarships/ for more information about the scholarships offered.
