Eight reasons why going Greek is a good idea:
1. Improved Academics- Alpha Sigma Tau requires a 2.5 GPA to be an active member. We are a network of sisters all pushing each other to do the best that we can as academics are one of the most important things in our sorority.
2. Lifelong friends- When you go Greek, you gain a multitude of friends that not only last during college, but after. You can become Alpha Sigma Tau alumnae and be involved with the collegiate chapters, do philanthropy events, and be a part of a group of active sorority women.
3. Volunteer Work- Being part of a sorority also means philanthropy. Each sorority has different charities they support. Alpha Sigma Tau helps with Habitat for Humanity, Haven, as well as Pine Mountain Settlement School. You can read about these three charities on our Philanthropy page.
4. Leadership Opportunities- Depending on your student's comfort level, sisters are able to rise up to a position of leadership whether it be leading a charity event or eventually becoming president of the sorority! There are many chances for her to take on responsibilities in our chapter.
5. Resume Building- With all of the charity hours and leadership opportunities, Greek life often looks great on resumes! It helps lead to more interviews and better jobs in the future.
6. Networking- Greeks are not only at Oakland University. Alpha Sigma Tau has over 90 active chapters and groups across the nation. The ability to meet a sister anywhere in the country could get your loved one to the next part of their life, whether it’s a house, job, car, etc.
7. Support System- Alpha Sigma Tau prides itself on providing a great support system of girls to help make college life as easy as possible. With forty other sisters, there is always someone there to help you with homework, home sickness, or anything other issue that may arise.
8. School Involvement- Becoming a member of a sorority gets you involved in the school. It opens doors for other campus organizations and even on-campus jobs.
