Alpha Sigma Tau's purpose embodies itself with developing its members ethically, culturally, and socially. One of the ways the national sorority is accomplishing this is with the 4-year membership development program. Currently, this program is in the development phase, and the Delta Tau chapter is honored to be a pilot chapter for the program! The program was implented during the summer of 2014.
This 4-year membership experience is in partnership with The Leadership Institute-Women with a Purpose. The program is based on eight core concepts, and includes a national service immersion trip to Hawaii. Alpha Sigma Tau's core values are integrated into the program, so our sisters have the opportunity to enrich their lives along side our principles.
The eight competencies of this program are based on competencies that great women leaders possess. They consist of:
- Being genuine
- Communicating effectively
- Possessing excellence
- Striving for personal life balance
- Valuing and maintaining relationships
- Contributing to society
- Being confident
- Innovating and managing change
The national service immersion trip to Hawaii was coordinated by Alpha Sigma Tau Nationals with The Leadership Institute in both May 2012 and 2013. A group of ladies selected from AST chapters around the country get to go on this trip every year. One of the ladies of the Delta Tau chapter, Melanie LaFlam, got to attend this wonderful immersion trip in May 2013. In addition to taking in the rich culture and environment of Hawaii, she also got to contribute to the preservation of the island. The ladies also got to make close bonds with sisters from across the country, making this
the trip of a lifetime.
